Sober Living in five (More) Simple Actions - Even for "Real" Alcoholics!


I would be drunk and nasty. I would not get along well with folks all around me. I would be resentful and endlessly adverse.

The only way I can live a sober existence is to stick to a plan of recovery. I don't necessarily endorse any distinct technique, but I will share some tips that have assisted me remain sober for a handful of many years.

1. Share Your Pain
A person the moment stated that "pain shared is discomfort cut in half". I'm not certain if that is one hundred% accurate, but I have found that when I discuss my challenges with folks who have equivalent experiences, I discover relief. When I confess my "secrets" out loud, they don't seem as negative.

Be cautious about telling war stories to folks with no frame of reference. Sharing your pain to an individual with no experience with addiction or alcoholism can trigger issues.

2. Support Others
God created us to live in fellowship with others. Additional, He intends for us to be of service to the folks close to us. The apparent spot for this to commence is at property. Endeavor to be of as much help as doable to your family members. Be productive, essential, related and accommodating. Appear for possibilities to support co-workers and close friends. See troubles as opportunities to be of service. Most importantly, help other addicts by sharing your knowledge with sober living.

Assisting other individuals often gives special perspective on how great you really have it. Just like your mother taught you...no matter how hard points are, somebody else constantly has it worse.

3. Give By yourself a Break
Obtaining sober is hard function! Don't beat your self up if you struggle along the way. You are going to have poor days and setbacks. Just keep in mind that these troubles always pass. When challenges pop up keep in mind how you felt when you had been living a drinking/drugging daily life. The worst day sober is much better than the very best day drunk!

4. Be grateful
If you are lucky sufficient to be provided the present of sobriety, be grateful. When I get in the habit of thinking about all the good things in my life (health, household, friends, etc) I don't have time or energy to brood on what ever challenges are in front of me on that day. Be deliberate about your gratitude. Write it down and share it with others. Gratitude leads to a optimistic mindset, which leads to a good day!

5. Don't Use Any Mind-Altering Substances
Now, this one appears pretty obvious, but I feel that I would be remiss if I excluded it. I can't live a sober life if I am employing substances to modify the way I feel. The excuse "I'm an alcoholic so taking discomfort tablets or smoking a joint is alright" does not function. The explanation I abused alcohol was that I did not like the way I felt and drinking altered that for me.
